Little Banana: vegan wedding cake, appointment only

Amanda Durham Quijada's cake studio. Official vegan chocolate, vanilla, spice, funfetti, and lemon. No walk-in. No street.

We have been treating custom vegan wedding cake like a rumor you only hear from a planner, and we FINALLY booked the tasting Little Banana Bakery actually offers: five official vegan cake flavors, plus vegan berry crumble bars, from an appointment-only studio that will not let you walk in off the sidewalk! Owner and pastry chef Amanda Durham Quijada began Little Banana in 2021 as a home-based business during early motherhood. Oregon Culinary Institute pastry. Sugar flowers under Maggie Austin. More than 20 years in catering. The footer calls it a Pacific Northwest cake studio making bespoke wedding cakes in Portland and beyond. That is the shop. It is NOT a dedicated vegan bakery. It is NOT a dedicated gluten-free bakery.

The vegan order is printed on the current menu in one line: Chocolate, Vanilla, Spice, Funfetti, Lemon. Those five are the vegan options. Do not drag Lemon Velvet, red velvet, carrot, German chocolate, berry chantilly, chocolate truffle, or triple mousse onto that list. Those are other cakes. Vegan berry crumble bars are $30 a dozen, two-dozen minimum. Panna cotta is listed with GF and vegan options in seasonal flavors. That is the vegan dessert sentence. Everything else on the menu that says “can be made gluten free” is a gluten-free note, not a vegan one.

The visit is the other sentence you have to get right. No walk-ins. Domestically licensed kitchen. Tastings by appointment at an office space they describe as inner Southeast Portland, or as tasting boxes for pickup. We are not publishing a street. Cake tasting is $75 for four flavors and fillings. Dessert tasting $75. Cake plus dessert $125. Wedding cakes start at $500. Celebration cakes start at $150. Dessert tables start at $500 unless there is already a cake. Delivery and setup are a distance fee. Email is littlebananabakery@gmail.com.

Gluten-free is a lifestyle offering, and they say so twice. Not a dedicated facility. If a guest has celiac or a severe gluten allergy, they tell you to source from a dedicated gluten-free bakery. That is them being careful, and we are repeating it so nobody uses this page as a celiac promise.

We keep coming back because a cake studio that will print vegan chocolate, vanilla, spice, funfetti, and lemon is how you actually order a vegan wedding cake in this city, and a directory that pretends this is a walk-in pastry case would send you to a door that does not open. Book the tasting. Order one of the five vegan flavors. Take the berry crumble bars if the dessert table is the assignment. Then get out before you publish a cottage address or call the whole studio vegan and make Amanda’s most careful menu line disappear!
